Privacywhat is collected, and what is not
Short, because there is very little to say. This site sells nothing directly, sets no advertising cookies, and has no accounts to log in to.
One list, a few times a year
The only thing this site ever asks for is an email address, and only if you offer it. It is used for one thing: to write to you when there is something finished — a new book, a recording, a cover that never went to print. A few times a year, and nothing else. No offers from anybody else, ever.
The list is held by Kit, a mailing service, on servers in the United States. They store the address, the date it was added, and whether the emails were opened. They do not own the list and they do not sell it. Nor do I — your address is never sold, rented, traded or handed to anyone.
You will be asked to confirm the address before anything is sent, so nobody can be added by someone else. Every email carries an unsubscribe link that works immediately and needs no reason given. Unsubscribing removes the address; it is not kept on a suppression list unless the law requires it.
You can ask at any time what is held about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted outright, and it will be done. Write to hello@balladofchaos.com. If you are in the EU or the UK the legal basis is your consent, which you give by confirming the address and withdraw by unsubscribing; if you are in India, the same applies under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act.
Google Analytics, and only if you allow it
This site uses Google Analytics to count visits — which pages are read, roughly where in the world from, and nothing that identifies you by name. It is there to know whether any of this is being read at all.
Where consent is legally required, nothing loads until you say so: a single line appears at the foot of the page, and Analytics is only fetched if you press Allow. Press No thanks and it is never loaded on any page. Your answer is remembered in your own browser, not on a server, and it is the only thing this site stores there.
Nothing here sets an advertising cookie, builds a profile, or shares anything with a data broker.
Checking what you chose…
What this site does not do
There are no accounts, no comments, no logins and no shopping cart. Buying happens on Amazon, Flipkart or NotionPress, and once you follow one of those links you are on their site under their privacy policy, not this one. The same goes for the YouTube and Spotify players on the book and soundtrack pages: they load from those companies and are covered by their terms, which is why nothing plays until you press play.
The site is static files on ordinary web hosting. The host keeps standard server logs — an IP address, a page, a timestamp — for a short period, the way every web server does.
If any of this changes, this page changes with it, and the date below moves.
