He raised his voice to God, and God answered with silence.
First among Heaven's brilliant, Lucifer was the Creator's favoured mind — the architect of harmony, the voice that tempered chaos with reason. Then he saw something in the design that no one else would acknowledge, and he asked about it out loud. Nobody answered. He was cast to the Edge of Creation for the asking, and there he learned the shape of the wound: his exile was not a punishment at all. It was an anointing.
What follows is not a fall. It is a verdict, and then a campaign. He takes the throne of Judgment. He learns the spiral of time well enough to walk it backwards. He wages a war on Heaven of impossible precision, brother against brother, each victory paid for in someone he loved. Michael holds the line out of duty. Gabriel speaks for a Father who has stopped speaking. Uriel draws an arrow he does not want to loose.
And the whole time, the board Lucifer believes he commands is one he was placed upon. Book One of the mythic cycle opens the oldest war in existence from the side that lost the telling — Lucifer's own first-person past braided against a present he cannot see clearly. It begins the way every real rebellion begins: with a question nobody wanted asked.
Dramatis personae
- Lucifer the Unbound — Once the Creator's favoured mind — the architect of harmony, the voice that tempered chaos with reason. Now he propagates it.
- Michael the Dutiful — Commander of the Heavenly Host and first into battle. In him, duty is not a choice — it is his very being.
- Gabriel the True — Eden's herald and the unshaken voice of the Creator's will. His faith is absolute — and so is his willingness to confront those who twist Heaven's law.
- Uriel the Just — Heaven's arrow, loosed only when judgment must be final. He carries the grief of one who has watched the guilty and the innocent fall beneath the same verdict.
- Raphael the Enduring — Healer and warrior both. His mercy is not weakness, but the courage to bear the pain of others.
- Azrael the Eternal — The end given form. He does not chase battle — he arrives to end it. His axe is not a weapon but a sentence.
- Zachariel the Veilbearer — Once the shining point of Heaven's golden spear, now the guard at the border where light meets shadow. Immovable.
- Cain the Cursed — He fought not for Heaven, not for Hell, but for himself. The mark upon his brow is not a warning. It is a promise.
- Oris — the Creator — First light, first word, first will. To some the source of all good; to others the architect of their chains.
- Voris — the Void — He sows seeds of despair, corruption and betrayal. Perdition blooms best where the world no longer notices it was planted.
- Moris — Death — Neither enemy nor ally, only the inevitable. She has no need to hurry; all paths end in her domain.
